About the Show
alienEthOS: The Ethics of Sci-fi, where we examine the ethical issues in science fiction movies, TV shows, books and comics and how they relate to our lives.
Each week we’ll tackle a new ethical issue by using an example from the science fiction world. Well explore the issue, see how it’s relevent to our lives, then, figure out what we can take from it. This is meant to be a community driven show with comments and voicemails from our listeners (although we know it will take time for that.) We’ll also have a charity of the month where we talk about a particular charity and why they are important.
Acessibility. We here are dedicated to the equal treatment of all humans. We will promise to keep this website screen reader friendly and provide transcripts for all of our podcasts. Transcription is a very time consuming process so the transcripts might take a while, but they will be there. If you are using our website and find part of it unaccesesible, please contact us and let us know!
About Us
KEVIN L. PRATT is a vagabond of life. He walks and never knows where he’ll end up. He was born in Decatur, GA. He grew up a country boy out in Covington, Ga (dirt roads!) and spent most of his childhood playing in the woods. Then he discovered books at around age seven and any chance that he would not end up a complete geek was gone. Being an avid reader throughout, Kevin also threw himself into arts and crafts, computers, and theater.
He has a strong background in graphic design and photography which he hopes to make a career out of. He has also volunteered in the public sector and cares deeply about the issues of the day and tries to keep on top of the world’s news. He is still trying to finish his first degree (decisions are so hard) after taking a break to work in the private (read Quiktrip) sector.
Kevin was drawn to podcasting because he feels that it will be an awesome way to use everything that he’s learned. He is really enjoying it already which is ironic considering he has been hard of hearing from birth.
KADE BOND P. HUTCHINSON never knows whether to go for Professional, or instead for Plucky-&-Outside-the-Box in his bios. Either way he gets a kick out of making them sound like a twisted version of something in the back cover of your favorite sci-fi book.
On the professional side, he is a graduate research associate in environmental geology and sustainable development at Arizona State University in Tempe, Arizona. His research appointment is at the way cool new state-of-the-art Decision Theatre at ASU, which you can read about in Wired magazine’s October issue (where you’ll see a photograph that also includes the back of his head). Despite the fact that New Orleans was far to close for him to stay out of trouble, Kade managed to obtain a bachelor’s degree from Louisiana Tech University in Ruston, Louisiana. He plans to continue his studies in an as-yet-undetermined European sustainable development PhD program. He swears this is much more exciting than it sounds, as it amounts to studying how to save the world, but in somewhere swank like Munich (hey, he loves bratwurst and dark beer … oh, and hot Europeans with accents).
The away-from-the-office Kade grew up in Georgia, spending much of his childhood on the family farm near Savannah, where his family lives today. This bucolic upbringing no doubt inspired him to be an avid outdoorsman, as evidenced by his status as an outdoor guide & trip leader for ASU’s outdoor recreation program, Explore. In addition to his frequent backpacking excursions, his obsession with sci-fi, and his amateur music pursuits, Kade has also made time to co-found and serve as vice president of ASU’s chapter of Engineers Without Borders.
